Final Blog VSAR-302

I’ve enjoyed looking at all the amazing books are class produced. Great job guys! One book I thought was interesting was the book titled,” While You Sleep.” This book really caught my eye because of all the night photography. I myself is starting to get into night photography and highly appreciate the art form. Night photography in general is extremely hard. I love how the author captured the night with great composition. My favorite shots are the photographs of the moving lights. I love how the author uses one bold word to describe the photo. Overall an amazing book.

Thanks for everyone who shared!

Wish the best of Luck!

Ordover Gallery @ San Diego Natural History Museum

A few weeks ago I got the chance to visit the Ordover Gallery at the San Diego Natural History Museum. The photographer at the time was Ralph Lee Hopkins, a well known nature photographer. I enjoyed looking at his photographs because they had a real sense of what nature is like in its natural habitat. I think Hopkins does a really good job in capturing animals in their natural state of mind and being. I’ve always enjoyed nature photography because I love animals and nature. Nature photography takes a lot of patience and a good zoom lens to get those close up shots. Ralph Lee Hopkins has some great landscape and nature photographs that anyone can enjoy. I would have to say that Hopkins has inspired me to get more into nature photography and get out there in the world and discover life’s mysterious. I thank photographers like Hopkins who inspire young artists like me to discover their real compassion’s in life.

Thanks for the inspiring photography!

Ordover Gallery in Solana Beach

The Ordover  Gallery is located in the small beach town of Solana. I live the next town north on Solana in Cardiff. From being so close to the Ordover Gallery, I see myself on the streets of Ordover looking at the many wonderful and inspiring art that the Ordover Gallery has to offer. When walking the streets of Cedros, in Solana, I noticed myself taking many marvelous pictures of the surrounding art around me. I love to take my camera, wherever I go to capture each moment in my adventure. Photography has taught me a lot about myself and the world. Photography has taught me many things such as really appreciating each moment in life and how each second, even split second is precious to time.

I loved walking the street of my neighboring city and looking amongst the many galleries, Ordover has to offer. I really appreciated all the artists and how much time they contribute to their passion in life. I feel each artist has a certain compassion that drives them in doing what they do with their art. Art is a beautiful way to express one self and I believe the artists of Ordover to just that. I clap my hands to these inspiring small town artists. Great Work!

MOPA feat. Fazal Sheikh

When I visited the MOPA, Museum of Photographic Arts featuring the famous activist photographer Fazal Sheikh I felt a empowering force come over me. The photographer Fazal Sheikh focus his photography on women in India.I found his work to be very powerful showing the true culture of women in India. A lot of his work focuses on the suppressed women of India. He studies two different groups of women based in India. The first group is Moksha, widows that have devoted their life to find rebirth and true meaning of who they are in this and past life’s. The other group is Ladli, which shows younger women in India suppressed from society and humanity. I love how Fazal captures each women with different meaning in the same culture. I noticed that most of his photographs he takes the women aren’t smiling before the camera. This can symbolize the suppression on women in India. All of his photographs were very well composed and I loved how his incorpated the black and white photographs into his gallery.

Great compelling artist!

Book Ideas

My first idea didn’t come easy, but I decided to do my book on San Diego’s Architecture. I’m thinking of naming my book “Blueprint”. Fitting name for my topic. I will be focusing only on San Diego’s Architecture and explore the vast ranges of buildings of architecture San Diego has to offer. For my photographs I will go mainly downtown, Cornado, La Jolla, and Del Mar. Shooting styles I will base my photographs on are landscape shots, closeups, vertical limit and a few others to make the photos interesting. I was thinking about using objects to scan for my project as well such as blueprints, brochures and whatever else I can find related back to my topic. I will have a diverse use of shooting styles in my book to keep your eye moving! This book will be good compilation of San Diego’s Architecture.

My second idea is going to be all about dogs. I choose dogs as my book topic because I love dogs and have one of my own. I will take most my pictures when I take my dog to local dog parks. The dog parks I will visit include: La Jolla, Encintas, Del Mar and a few others. All of these dog parks have plenty of different species to take photographs. I’m excited to do this book because I will be taking photographs of my favorite animal and at the same time I get to spend time with my own dog. In my photographs I will try and incorporate action shots, and close ups. Here a few photographs I’ve taken so far. Enjoy!

A few ideas I have for my book is getting photographs of many different kinds of dogs so I have a good diversity in dogs. Also I will take pictures of dog related material such as dog park signs, doggie bags and other dog accessories. This will give my book a good grasp on dog life. I hope to accomplish all these doggy features that will visually enhance my book. My final idea is to take a photographs of dogs and change the background using photoshop and use the blending tool to accomplish new creative visuals. This will give my book some eye candy. I will also give an adjective for every page, which will give a good conception of the photograph. I hope you enjoy my book when I’m done!

James Nachtwey

James Nachtywey is a photographer who focuses on documenting different war conflicts around the world. He started in the 1960’s and grew to love to document worldwide conflicts. A few places he studied where: Northern Ireland, Africa and Iran. In his descriptions of his photographs he really gives powerful metaphors to really explain his photography. I think all of his photographs were violent yet compelling in telling a story of a nation under conflict. Very interesting yet saddening work. I like how he said he uses his anger to clarify his vision. I found that too be very powerful. Overall I think James Nachtwey is a very powerful and interesting photographer who takes really compelling photographs that tell a sad story.
